Detailed overview from mtv.com:
The UK band Busted are hitting America in hopes to find success. America Busted chronicles the lives of band members James, Matt, Charlie and their manager Fletch, as they prepare their American invasion and hope to thrive where so many other British artists have failed.
Our introductory episode opens with the guys and Fletch chatting in their tour bus as they head to their last UK concert - two days before they journey to America. As they lounge around the bus, James pours over the tabloids, reading the latest gossip, and Matt explains that he got an electric shock after sticking his knife into a toaster.
The boys rock their farewell concert and get an unexpected perk in the process--flashing female fans. Afterwards, the guys are stoked about the way the concert went and even happier about the all of the flashing.
The next day, each of the guys spends time with friends and family before their departure to the US. James heads home to spend time with his family and to check out his guitar, which has been painted with a hot new design. After chatting with his mom, he talks to his younger brother Chris. Meanwhile, Matt hangs out with his friend Ed. Matt worries about being away from home for so long and not having access to all the people that he cares about.
After chillin' for awhile, it's back to business. Matt, James and Charlie head over to Fletch's house for a conference call with Universal - their US label. Their mood takes a hit after talking to Jill, a Universal marketing representative, who confirms the band's worst fear - the label will be marketing them to a teen audience and playing up their pop appeal! Fletch tries to reassure the guys that once they get to New York, they will have an opportunity to straighten everything out.
After the call, Charlie talks with his friends and notes that the band had to go down a similar pop path when they first made their name in Britain. After finally breaking out of that mold and establishing themselves as serious artists in the UK, he feels that they are regressing as they prepare for their US launch.
But as the day to fly overseas arrives, the group is forced to put all their worries aside and hurriedly pack before Fletch arrives. The guys revel in the throngs of cheering fans greeting them at the London airport but hold back groans when they arrive in NY to an unresponsive limo driver who asks, 'Are you Buster?'
Their limo ride to Universal's Manhattan offices is full of fun sights and the boys are excited when they pull up to the building. After meeting their marketing team and getting a warm welcome from Universal's President, the guys hear a familiar tune. Universal will market them as a pop band to young girls who are supposed to buy their album because of their hot looks--not necessarily their musical talent. Although Charlie tries to point out how important it is to them to be recognized as true artists and songwriters, the label tells them that they have to establish themselves as different from the rest of the "boy bands" out there before they will be able to stray from this marketing strategy. Only time will tell how the guys fare in America, but the one thing they have to rely on at this point is patience.
