Taken from It's Hot - May 2003

Love is..

..a whole lot easier when you're famous, as Busted's Mattie, James and Charlie found out. Well, most of the time, anyway!

Things that make them run a mile..

Do you worry that laydees are only after you for your fame and dosh?
Charlie: Not really, I'm pretty good at sussing people out.
James: I don't care! As long as it makes me more desirable, I think it's great! I'd still fancy Britney if she wasn't famous.

What's the worst thing a girl has ever done to you?
Charlie: Chucked a drink over me when we were arguing. It ruined my shirt and the wall behind me, but we made up afterwards.

Can you still be friends with an ex?
Charlie: I think you can - if you want to. I had this one girlfriend that I never want to see again. When I snogged her best mate, she turned into a complete psycho and sent me hate mail. I stayed well away after that.
James: It depends on the relationship and how it ends. I'm mates with an ex, even though it was a rough split. Sometimes people just have to swallow their pride.
Mattie: I am. She's going out with one of my best mates now and they're really in love. She's a nice girl and he's a great guy, so I'm really happy for both of them.

Have you ever been stood up?
Charlie: Well, I might've been, but I think it was accidental. If I remember rightly, I went to meet a girl and waited for her for half an hour or so, but she never turned up. I can't remember the reason she gave for not turning up, but I saw her again, so it must've been a good excuse.
James: Never, and I've never stood anyone up, either. I was nearly stood up once, but it was because I'd got my dates mixed up. Luckily I realised in time!
Mattie: I've been phoned up by a girl the night before a date to say she couldn't make it. I thought she was blowing me out, but we got together another time.

Has anyone ever dumped you by text or by phone?
Charlie: My first girlfriend got her friend to dump me in front of all my friends. Then she came back and I thought she was going to say it was a wind up, but instead she gave me back the necklace I'd bought my girlfriend. I was totally gutted and all my mates thought it was really out of order.
James: I've never been dumped before, and I'd never dump someone else by text. You should do it when you're alone with the person, in front of no one.
Mattie: No, I've never been dumped, but I have to admit that I've dumped someone else by phone. It was cowardly, I know, but she didn't live near me!

Ever fancied a girl who didn't fancy you back?
Charlie: I've fancied girls that were older than me, but I never really go after a girl unless I know I'm in with a chance.
James: If I think a girl's out of my league, I won't bother asking her out. Sometimes you can tell what type of blokes girls go for.
Mattie: All the time - I'm a sad case! Listen to me, when I was 14 I fancied this girl so much it was unreal. Her name was Little Leanne and I totally fell in love with her, but she didn't fancy me back. Then, when I turned 16, I finally got her.

Have you ever been asked out by someone that you didn't like?
James: Yeah! I was still nice to her though, even though I wasn't interested. I think that's important. I'd never say, 'No, you're ugly.' I'd say I've already got a girlfriend.
Mattie: A real clubby, townie girl asked me out once - she had big gold earrings and chains, which really isn't me. She was completely not my type, so I just told her that I was seeing someone.
Charlie: No, but I've got a bit of a cringey story. I was going out with a girl I really fancied, and one night we stopped outside her house for a snog. Anyway, I heard a noise and opened my eyes, only to see that she was staring at me while we were kissing! It really freaked me out and I ended up finishing with her the next day.

Things that make them smile..

So, are girls queuing up to go out with you now?
Charlie: I guess so. I get a lot more offers these days, anyway! What makes me laugh though is that the fit girlfs I used to fancy, who never had the time of day for me before Busted, are after me now!
Mattie: Yeah, girls who would never give me the time of day before, now flirt with me outrageously! You can spot a fake easily though, just by the way they act around you. When a girl just talks about the band all the time, you know they're more interested in the fame and fortune than they are in you.
James: The queue's certainly much bigger now! I never try to pull loads of girls, but I usually get the ones I want!

Do any of you have a girlfriend?
Charlie: I go out with girls, but it's nothing serious, just dating. I think I last went out with a girl a couple of weeks ago. I haven't spoken to her since, but we'll see..!
James: I did have, but I'm single again now. And I normally only get involved with a girl if I really, really like her.
Mattie: Well, I haven't.. yet. I've almost got a girlfriend, but it's not official yet. It's someone I knew before we were famous so I know she's a genuine person.

So are your days of getting knocked back by girls over now?
Charlie: I've only crashed and burned once and that's what You Said No is about. I was at a disco and when I asked a girl I really fancied to dance, she turned me down.
James: Oh yeah! All the girls seem to say yes now - it's easy to pull! You can tell if someone fancies you because they laugh at everything you say, even if it's not funny.
Mattie: Being famous does make it easier to pull , but I still crash and burn on a daily basis!

What's the maddest thing a girl has done to get close to you?
Charlie: Lifted her top up to show me her chest, which had my name written on it!
James: Stupid things, like being really forward and following us around all the time. We've even had marriage proposals! I always say 'I'll think about it..'
Mattie: In Germany, three girls followed our tour bus with their car lights off - which is pretty dangerous. They stayed behind us two hours and then expected us to sit down and chat with them!

How about famous laydees - had any of them after you?
Charlie: No one that I know of, although there was a rumour flying around about me and Heidi from Sugababes. They even heard that story in Germany - it's ridiculous! It started off as gossip and was just blown out of all proportion.
James: I've not had one come up to me, but the famous ladies I fancy wouldn't - they're too famous!
Mattie: My mates wind me up and tell me certain girls fancy me. One told me Kate from Big Brother fancied me, but that's just rubbish.

What's the most romantic thing you've done for a girl?
James: I whisked a girl away on a trip to Spain! She didn't know I'd booked it, so it was a really nice surprise.
Charlie: When the band first started, our manager didn't want us going out late at night, but I used to sneak out at 11pm to see a girl I was going out with at the time. It went on for about three months and was quite romantic. It was worth it just to see her.
Mattie: This girl I was seeing needed a new CD player so on Valentine's day, I got her a new one and played our song as I gave it to her. It was a song from the 60s called Lovin' You Lots And Lots!

What should a girl do to try and sweep you off your feet?
Charlie: She could promise to give me a really excellent massage!
James: Come and say to me that they've got Michael Jackson's phone number for me! That would really sweep me off my feet!
Mattie: I've no idea. They'd have to surprise me, I guess!

What's the best thing about being in love?
Charlie: Looking forward to seeing somebody all the time - it's a really secure feeling. I wouldn't want to be in a relationship now though, I want to wait until everything's calmed down so I can give a girl 100 per cent.
James: Being in love's very easy and you don't care about much else. You can just be yourself around the person you love.
Mattie: Everything else in my life I can control, but not love!

Busted pulling checklist!

Don't..
throw your drinks at them
get your mates to do the dumping
turn psycho or send them hate mail
be a fake (they can tell!)
wear big gold earrings and chains

Do..
laugh at their jokes (if they're funny)
be interested in them, not their fame
learn some massage techniques
say yes if they ask you to dance
give them Jacko's phone number
