The subject of speech: The real important things in life like..
..Friendship!
Busted is not only a band, you’re also best friends. The best prove of that is that you all live in a apartment in Finchley..
James: Correction: At the moment, we don’t live together anymore. But it’s true that we used to.
What went wrong?
James: Oh no, don’t think we were constant arguing about who had to do the dishes or something, but it just happened. It doesn’t do any harm to see different faces in the evening, you know. But we’re still good friends. Matt and I know each other from before the Busted time perk. We’ve met Charlie after an audition, but also with him there was a connection from the start.
About your friendships outside of Busted: what’s the best thing a friend ever did to you?
Matt: Not so long ago, my best friend had given me an original present: a tattoo in the shape of a star on my hand. I will think of him for the rest of my life… Even though people say that tattoos are extremely addictive and I soon will be tattooed from head to toe, that first one is still special..
And what’s the worst thing a friend did to you?
Charlie: The classic story: when I broke up with my ex-girlfriend, a so-called friend decided to ask her out on the same day. When I still had feelings for her! Fortunately, he wasn’t a really close friend, but if he was, he would have known how I thought about the situation.
..Girls!
You hardly ever fight, but what if all three of you like the same girl?
James: I don’t think that would ever happen. Charlie likes blondes, Matt has a weak point for older women, and I prefer brunettes. You see: different tastes!
And what’s the best thing about girls?
Charlie: (laughs) That they are feminine!
Okay.. and the worst thing?
James: Girls usually have the habit to talk about themselves and their little problems.
Charlie: I think the worst thing is that A LOT of girls are complaining about their weight, when they look gorgeous. It’s a shame!
What’s the most original way a girl has chatted you up?
Matt: Two weeks ago, I was standing at the bar of my favourite pub, when suddenly a girl tripped right in front of me. I was just in time to catch her, or she would have banged to the floor. A couple of hours later, her friend confessed me that it was all an act. But I didn’t care: I thought it was a huge compliment that she would go on her face for me and I found it especially funny.
And what’s the most embarrassing thing you did in front of your date?
James: Once, I burped extremely loud in a posh restaurant. Everyone was looking at us, but my date could laugh about it. With that, she had passed for the test, as my girlfriend has got to have a very immature taste of humour.
Charlie: In my case, a ‘mother-in-law’ was involved. Once, I was alone with one of my ex-girlfriends. At least, that’s what I thought, because when I was walking up the stairs, I accidentally bumped to her mother, who was just coming out of the bathroom. Butt naked! I had never run so fast in my life, than that day.
Was your first kiss what you expected?
Charlie: (convinced) Yes! Actually, I was better then I had ever dreamt. For all the readers, where it didn’t go so well: Less is more!
..Music!
What was your proudest moment of your career?
James: When our album scored double platinum in the UK.
Charlie: And, of course, our first number 1.
Was there once a moment on stage, where you thought: ‘Oh my God, this isn’t happening, so embarrassing!’
James: Well, no. You see, that’s the useful thing about being in a band like Busted. We’re always acting so stupid that it is impossible to be more ridiculous. Even, when we fall on our faces, everyone still thinks: ‘Nice show!’
What kind of music do you listen to at home?
James: I really love Avril Lavigne. I once saw here in the flesh at a party, but unfortunately, I didn’t had the balls to talk to her. Maybe next time..
..Fame!
When was the first time you realised you were a celebrity?
Charlie: When I heard our song on the radio. That was such an incredible moment. We were in the car, driving from an interview back to home.
Is being famous as incredible as everyone thinks it is?
Charlie: Well.. on vip-parties, there’s always something going on, even though it’s full of people who think they’re better than others. But it’s then when it’s fun to trash the whole thing. Like not so long ago with Lee fom Blue. He’s a good friend of ours, because he also doesn’t like the sphere that’s hanging on those kind of parties. Last time,we were so wasted! We drank for at least a hundred men. It took two whole days to puke it all out.
We’re almost scared to ask: What’s the bad thing about being famous?
Matt: Sometimes, you get the impression that you don’t get any time for yourself. But that impression goes away very fast, when you’re giving a show for a crew of crazy fans. Especially the festivals are the best thing to do. The biggest compliment for me is that all the fans can sing our songs from the beginning to the end.
On the seventh of July, your book is also coming out. Can you tell some spicy details?
James: Sorry, you’re gonna have to buy the book for that!
What if..
Busted was a cartoon?
Matt: Then Charlie had to be Bart Simpson, because of all the pranks, James would be a perfect Ace Ventura because he’s also so lanky, and I would be Stan from ‘South Park’ (Hello?! Isn’t Stan the guy who throws up when he has to kiss a girl?!?)
There is gonna be a film about the lives of the guys of Busted?
James: Even though, he died a long time ago, I think James Dean would be a perfect Charlie. He isn’t the most popular guy from the band for nothing, eh? Billy from ‘Eastenders’ would be the perfect Matt, because they do the same tricky stunts. And for me? I think Jason Biggs is the best man you can get, just because I think he’s so funny in the American Pie films.
You would be a female artist?
Charlie: Then I would be Britney Spears, and I would stand naked in front of the mirror the whole day! Of course, for the same reason, James would be Pamela Anderson and Matt would like to see himself as Cindy Crawford!
