Invicta FM interview
Stephen Sullivan: It's Invicta FM, It's been a while since they've been in but they're back. Welcome, The one and only BUSTED!
All: Yeah!
SS: Welcome back, It's been a while but yes, you're here, it's good to see you again
J: Nice to be back in The Fridge
C: Good to be back
M: *laughs*
C: Freeeedge
SS: It's been a while, two massive tours, you've had a couple of Brit awards, second album later, it's all going brilliantly, still enjoying it as much as you used to?
C: Yep
M: It's even cooler now
C: It's even better, seriously
J: It's really really good
SS: Now that everyone knows you
J: And we go to loads of countries abroad stuff like that, and play good shows
SS: Fantastic
J: We're doing live shows abroad now, it's very exciting
SS: I still remember the first time you came down and one of the Invicta people thought you were work experience people
J: And that time when I nicked your guitar
SS: You nicked my guitar strap
J: Yeah. No, your guitar strap
SS: Yeah, still got it?
J: Don't know
SS: No, it's long dead and buried
J: I have to get you another one
SS: Yeah, I still haven't been able to play my guitar and it's just sitting there looking decorative in my room. How was the tour because we've heard nothing but good reports about it. You guys enjoy it?
M: Um, well, what's not to enjoy man?
SS: What are the best things?
M: Well, it was just incredible man
J: You get to sleep late and get up and do a show in the evening. What a great day.
M: It's all you do. We got up at 3 every day and went and ate catering, sound check, eat catering, go on stage infront of thousands of people, then go and get --------
SS: Any disasterous moments on the tour you care to share with us?
C: Not really man, it was a good tour
M: Charlie kept whacking his head
C: Yeah, I cracked my head a couple of times
SS: Someone said to me that there were a load of explosions, I didn't manage to get to the tour, so loads of explosions.
J: One went in my mouth.
SS: Smelt like burnt pig or something
M: Yeah they did
J: I tasted the burnt pig
M: Flames went into James' mouth
J: Some went in my mouth, I got a really burnt tongue
C: Sometimes there'd just be a random pyro go off for no particular reason
SS: It's to keep ypu on your toes. Alright, you're coming to Kent, Broadstairs
M: Yeah man
C: Big Place?
SS: Yeah, big place, big field, we'll take some pictures, send them to you before hand so you can check out the place. Air Hostess, third single taken from second album, give us an quick introduction
M: Well, we're on planes a lot now which is cool, so we decided to do a tally on which has the fittest air hostesses and it's Virgin by like 10 to 1
SS: By a mile
J: When do we next fly on an airline?
M: In about 2 weeks James
J: Uhhhhhh, yeah
M: Then we just decided to write a song about Air Hostesses.
J: Indeed
SS: Well here we go, This is The Fridge on Invicta FM, it's the new single from Busted, it's Air Hostess.
(Air Hostess)
SS: It's Invicta FM, this is The Fridge, It's Busted and Air Hostess
C: Yeah, Yeah
SS: Make some noise for that tune, it's out this week, brilliant video as well, you guys thinking you're Wesley Snipes and just climbing into a plane via the wheels
C: What a cracking film
SS: Did you feel like action heroes when you were doing it?
C: No because the plane wasn't actually moving
SS: But you must have felt like you were filming some really flash movie
M: Well we were kind of in this big green area 'cos it was all green screen
SS: Oh no, not green screen
J: Because we're on the runway they bought the green area to us, they had to make the green area around
M: Yeah that was pretty cool
SS: Did you manage to pull any of the air hostesses in the video
M: No, They were pretty moody
J: They didn't talk to anybody
SS: I was expecting a sort of celebrity air hostess
M: No
SS: Wouldn't it have been great to get Britney to do that?
M: That would have been so good
J: That would have been amazing
SS: That ship has sailed a little bit
M: We didn't look into that
SS: Now you guys are travelling around a lot in the future. I hear the plan is to spend the next six weeks in America, do six weeks here, six weeks in the US, Is that still the idea?
M: I don't think it's gonna be as much as six weeks now it's gonna be like shorter periods I think we're gonna spend in each place
J: We're definitely coming back more often
M: I just wanna like, go away, then come back and say,"Hi we're back, still like us?" and then go away again and come back
J: It's kind of a risk actually, it's kind of like leaving a party you don't know, when you come back, it might have died
SS: What a great way of putting it, very deep. What do you think your chances are in America?
M: We're gonna go over and give it a go man
C: 50/50 I'd say, It's the Big Apple to slice and dice if you know what I'm saying
SS: Well what sort of things do you have to do to break into America? What's the plan?
M: Well we're gonna be on a tour bus for like, ages
C: You know you have Party in the Parks over here, You have them out there but they're like 50 thousand times bigger, 'cos Americas so big so you have these massive Amphitheatre type venues
J: We're gonna go all over, we doing some shows for loads of people
C: Hundreds of thousands of people
SS: You supporting anyone particular over there or just going around
J: We're doing alot of, you know Party in the Park? We're doing lots of them
C: That's what I just said James
J: Huh?
C: That's what I just said.
(Over the top of James and Charlie)
M: The difference is, over there, you can like drive to Ireland in 4 hours but out there, it takes like 4 days to get to the next one.
SS: And I hear plans for a super album as well
M: A Super Album
SS: A big super album with both albums merged into one big thing, is that true?
J: Indeed
M: We're thinking about it, we're probably gonna have the singles from the first one and the rest of the second one, mix them up and take them out into the States
C: I think with the Party in the Parks that we're doing, are all over America, Kansas, Houston, Boston, Philadelphia, Long Island
SS: Let's face it, All those places, V, Broadstairs. I'm sorry there is no comparison
M: Broadstairs is our gig as well so it's gonna be cool man
SS: Okay, Let's have something else that you're choosing, what's it gonna be?
M: A song that we're choosing?
SS: Yeah
M: We can choose anything?
C: In the World? Ever?
SS: As long as I've got it
M: I love that new Keane record
C: Give Matt Keane
SS: What, Somewhere Only We Know?
M: Yeah man
SS: Okay, let's have that, It's Invicta FM, It's the Fridge, It's Keane, Somewhere only we know and there's more from Busted in Just a second
(Keane - Somewhere Only We Know, Beyonce - Naughty Girl, Emma Bunton - Maybe, Busted - Year 3000)
SS: Invicta FM, It's the Fridge, taking us back a bit, that was Year 3000, it's Busted, That's the music video I starred in, Haven't been invited back to any of your other videos by the way, make a note of that, Now Charlie, we have to talk about your side project band, Fightstar
C: Yeah
SS: Lots of stuff going on with that, Prego as well
C: Prego, were you down there?
SS: Yes, well friends were.
C: Nice, Prego and Brigade, brother's bands
SS: Doing their thing, How's all that going?
C: Really good thank you
SS: Do you reckon that Fightstar, I mean do you want Fightstar to be as big as Busted
C: Uh, dunno, We'll just see how it goes
SS: There was a gig, couple of weeks ago, It was WestOneFour, Kensington Place, Harry from McFly in the crowd, Did you enjoy performing? Because I'm told that the crowd went mental
C: Yeah, sound system wasn't that great though
SS: No
C: Bit of a shame, wasn't amazing sound
SS: But that's the joy of dodgy venues, not that we're saying that they're a dodgy venue.
M: Just gonna say, watch Charlie being invited back to WestOneFour
C: Thing is though you get venues, we played the Underworld and the Garage and I think the sound is great at those venues.
SS: Yeah, the Garage is good
C: Yeah, the Garage and WestOneFour, It's more of a jazz bar you know. It was good fun though.
SS: Will Fightstar ever influence the sound of Busted?
C: Dunno man, Dunno
SS: They are heavier, for everyone who hasn't heard. Maybe we need to dig out one of your tracks, can we get it on the internet or something, I expect we can
J: There would be no point in having a side project if they were the same
C: Exactly
J: What's the point in being in 2 bands that are the same?
SS: What about James, Mattie, you gonna release any side project material? Or just take part in any side projects?
J: Most of the stuff that I write is done by other people
C: By Maccas
J: Yeah
C: Macca's Fly
SS: Right, nice, so Mattie..
M: Um, I'd just like to add, Harry from McFly may have been there but so was I
SS: Were you there as well?
M: I was there
SS: You were just inconspicuous
M: I was mobbed and had to leave.
SS: What about Jonny Panic?
M: Mate the boys!
SS: What's happening there? Any Busted things?
M: I don't know man, they're a completely different band to Busted, they're gonna be huge man, they're awesome. The videos just been added to TV and they're getting loads of Radio stuff
C: Put them on your playlist
M: Yeah, I reckon your listeners would like it
SS: I'll have a word with the boss
C: Ask your guy, your top guy.
M: Yeah, lets ask him, lets ask him
SS: It's a top lady
M: Top Lady?
C: Top Lady?
SS: See
M: Laady
SS: Okay, lets have something else
J: Like Queen
SS: You can have a classic
C: Oh a classic, well, Bohemian Rhapsody
SS: Bohemian Rhapsody?
J: Yeah! Good one, or if you could dig out the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme tune that would be really good.
SS: Right, don't have that one, left that one at home today
J: Do you know if I could find that one? They don't do it in the shops
SS: I could get it for you
J: Yeah
SS: We'll get it, We'll sort it. No worries. Bohemian Rhapsody, It was number 1 on the top 500 Hall of Fame, As chosen by Busted, at the Fridge at Invicta FM
(Bohemian Rhapsody)
SS: Invicta FM, This is the Fridge, we've got Busted here with us in the studio
M: Yes mate!
SS: We've got more from the guys in just a second, keep your questions coming in.
(What I Go To School For)
SS: Invicta FM, this is the Fridge, It was the song that kicked it all off for you guys
M: Yeah man
SS: It's What I go To School For, Busted are here with us in the studio.
C: How are you dude?
SS: Not too bad, not too bad, It's cool just hanging, We're stuffing our faces with bacon sandwiches
C: Good bacon sandwiches
SS: Good bacon sandwiches as well, as if we're gonna give you any crap
C: No crap Invicta!
SS: We cut all the fat off beforehand
M: I'd just like to say that you didn't cut all the fat off before hand
SS: No, I know, so.. are you bored of performing What I go To School for now? Still quite fresh?
M: Do you know what, It's actually kind of one of my favourite songs to perform on the set on the tour
J: Yeah, because the crowd go crazy
M: The crowd just go mental for it
C: Do you know where I think it's gonna be great, Broadstairs.
SS: Broadstairs
M: Mate
SS: Let's give out some details, it's the 31st of July, so it's gonna be height of summer.
J: Lots of excellent tickets available
SS: It's gonna be a nice, hot, sunny saturday afternoon. From what I can make out and let's face it, it's just gonna rock.
C: It's gonna be great
M: It's just gonna be us doing our thing, outside.
SS: Yeah
M: It's gonna be so good, It's gonna be like a little mini festival. My brothers band might be supporting us as well.
SS: Oh really?
M: Yeah which is gonna be cool
SS: Tell us some details
M: Well they're called The Undesided, and they hopefully, hopefully, might be supporting us but I'm not sure yet
SS: Watch this space, as soon as we know anything, we'll pass on the details. What about Prego or anything like that?
C: Prego have gotta finalise a line up. There's just two of them
SS: 'Cos it's your brothers band
C: And Brigade is my other brother's band
SS: Right okay
C: And they're both wicked man
SS: It will be a Busted outing in Broadstairs on the Saturday. Alright that sounds pretty cool so make sure you go and grab your tickets for that, it's gonna be amazing. Literally I think it's the first time you've performed in Kent since Party in the Dark
C: First time we did an outside live gig.
J: I can't remember the last time I set foot on Kentish soil
M: The Ministry Of Mayhem
SS: Ministry Of Mayhem!
M: That's in Kent
J: Oh yeah
C: It's out first ever, own headlining outside gig. That is cracking.
J: Oh yeah!
SS: What's gonna be the difference between the outside gigs and the tour?
C: The thing is, we've done outside gigs before but they're never our line up. We're doing like Party in the Darks or Party in the Parks
SS: It's gonna be good, 'cos it's cool
C: They're fun and all but to do our own headlining outside show
M: Everybody there on that list, not on that list, everybody there in that crowd has bought a ticket to see you
J: When you go to those Party in the Parks you see loads of people, and you can't really see the crowd on arena tours 'cos the lights are always turned down, house lights are turned on, you see the whole crowd, but like, in Party in the Park, outside in the light, you see everybody and all the way through the gig, you can see everybody and you really get the full experience of performing to a crowd
M: Oh yeah, we played a gig in Amsterdam, the other night, it was like for a thousand kids in a club. Over 16's standing gig, in a club and it was awesome, it was really small, then you do like these gigs and you look out and it's like, 12, 13, 14 thousand people come to see your gig and it's really cool.
SS: It's gonna be good. We did the same thing a couple of years ago with Blue and Liberty X and it was just amazing
M: Our's will be better
SS: Yeah, absolutely
C: Is the gig actually going out on Invicta?
SS: It's TBC
C: TBC!!
SS: We'll wait and see what happens, alright, let's have something else now that you guys wanna choose. What's it gonna be?
M: What do you want James?
J: Really don't mind
M: What pop song would you like to hear now?
J: I would like to hear.. why don't we play..
SS: What about the one..
J: JAM!!
SS: Michael Jackson, Jam, yeah?
J: Jam, Fridge!
SS: Right as chosen by James, It's Micheal Jackson - Jam, It's the Fridge, It's Invicta FM
(Jam)
SS: Invicta FM, This is the Fridge, Busted are here with us in the studio, guys thank you so much for coming down and checking us out, it's been fun, hanging out
C: It's been fun
J: It's been whacky
C: Watch out for Broadstairs
SS: Watch out for Broadstairs, 31st of July, Saturday, it's gonna be amazing, best of luck with the pending America stuff, I'm sure you're going to be going over there between now and then so it should be good, On the tour bus just getting bored out of your mind going from one place to another going, "Come on, just hurry up and let's get there already."
C: Oh by the way, did we mention Broadstairs on the 31st of July?
SS: Uh, yeah, we covered that only a little bit though, that's good because people needed reminding for a little while
J: On the 31st of July
SS: 31st of July, We're gonna play out with your fave Busted song, what are we gonna have?
C: Fave one in the world ever?
SS: Fave one in the world ever that we haven't already played
C: Oh haven't already played, what about..
M: Haven't already played, does it have to be a single?
SS: No
M: No
SS: No
M: Ooh I would like to play one of the album
SS: You can
C: You choose
M: Can we have Falling For You 'cos it never gets played and it's such a good song
J: Yeah it never gets played
M: We don't even play it on our live set anymore, we dropped it from our live set
SS: Falling For You, What number is it on the album? We've got the album here.
M: Uh, dunno, number 7 I think
J: Number sssssshe showed up at my door, that one
SS: Just like in a teen movie
M: Actually don't quote me on number 7
SS: Yeah yeah yeah yeah , okay, right we've got it, we can do it, it's number 6
J: Yeah
M: Oh is it really?
SS: It really is number 6
J: How did you know that?
M: Mate!
SS: We know that
M: You know the album off by heart, very good boy
SS: Invicta FM, this is the Fridge, Falling For You, Busted, thank you very much
M: Excellent
J: Falling For You!
(Falling For You)
