Busting Out

The Busted boys are finishing off a great year in style: by talking to us! After hitting the top three with their first single, making a cheeky video and doing the Smash Hits tour, the lads are gearing up for the release of their second single Year 3000 on January 13th.

We last spoke to you when you brought out What I Go To School For. What have you been up to since?
Matt: Our album came out, which was wicked. Having our album in shops to go and buy was pretty amazing.
Charlie: We did the Smash Hits tour, which was good. We've made the video for the second single which was cool. And we've been doing radio tours and other stuff like that.

Were you surprised that your first single did so well and you were on so many mag covers?
Matt: It was great, everyone was so supportive. We didn't know how people were going to take us.
James: We'd gone from being a complete nothing band to playing Party In The Park with bands that have been around for years, in front of thousands of people. We kinda rolled up and the single went to number three and we did Top Of The Pops and all that, it was crazy.

What's been the highlight so far?
Matt: The Smash Hits poll winners party was cool. I love shooting videos so doing our second one was great, and being on Top Of The Pops is a dream come true.
Charlie: Yeah, that was amazing. It's like a gig, because there's an audience. And we went on after David Bowie who was pre-recording a song. That was unreal.

What are you going to be doing for Christmas?
All together: Nothing!!
James: That's nothing in a good way! We've got ten days off over Christmas, which is the most amount of time we've ever had off. We've been so busy, just all the time that's it's gonna be great to just see the family and hang out with mates.
Charlie: Maybe drink a few beers, sip a little wine! Haha.

And what do you want for Christmas?
Charlie: I'd like the Back To The Future trilogy on DVD. Wicked films.
Matt: I want a massive CD rack. That's what I've asked for.
James: He's got so many CDs! Hundreds!
Matt: Yeah, I can never find the one I want to listen to, and I lose them as well, so I need to get them in order. File them alphabetically!
Charlie: That's how I do mine, it's the only way forward.

And what are you going to do on New Year's Eve?
Matt: My mate Jordan's girlfriend throws a house party every year and it was wicked the last couple of years, so I'm going to be doing that again.
Charlie: Yeah, I'll be going to a couple of parties back home.
James: Me too, and I'm going to make sure it's an amazing night! The last few years I've been to some right crap parties. On millennium night I went to a party of a lad I used to go to school with. It was crap and everyone else was leaving but as I turned up late I felt like I had to stay for a little while. We were totally different and when New Year rolled round there was three of us there with one party popper between us. Nightmare!

You've done quite a few gigs now, what type of fans do you get?
Matt: Our fans are cool, we get quite a few skater chicks, which is nice.

And do each of you get different types of fans?
Matt: Yeah!
James: I get the younger fans and their mums!
Matt: Yeah, they want to mother James. Charlie gets the fit girls.
James: Charlie gets all the girls who are sure of themselves. All the girls who know they're good looking go for him.
Charlie: I'd like to think that I get the sophisticated ladies. Matt gets the laddettes, or girls like Jordan.
Matt: I don't have a problem with Jordan in the slightest.

Have you got hobbies? What do you like to do when you've got time off?
Matt: I wanna do more fishing, I haven't been fishing in years and I liked it then so I wanna give it more of a go.
James: I want to play more tennis, more ping-pong and more tennis!
Charlie: I like checking out live music in little clubs and venues. I like discovering new bands and seeing them in places where you're right next to them. Arenas are alright and the band will probably be good but it's huge and isn't as personal or intimate. I saw Nada Surf at The Borderline and I was virtually right next to them.

Who do you fancy at the mo'?
Matt: Sarah Whatmore's really fit. I like her a lot.
Charlie: I reckon Britney's looking fit at the moment, then again she never really stopped.
James: I like Holly Valance.
Matt: Christina Aguilera is looking very dirty at the moment. You would never go out with her or introduce her to your mum, but, you'd definitely hang out with her for a few days. Oh yes.

So what's coming up for Busted?
Charlie: Our new single comes out on January the 13th and then we're going to Australia to do stuff there. That'll be amazing.
