Why would James make a good father? What makes Charlie seem dishonest? And why does Matt look like he's trouble? It's all in a face, it seems..

It's one of the most fiercely contested topics in the world of pop today: who is the best-looking member of Busted, and why? After must bickering in the tvhits! office, we decided to call in some expert help. Psychologist Elisabeth Cornwell of the Perception Lab at the University of St Andrews studies the science of facial attractiveness and knows everything there is to know about what makes a boy buff. Her findings make fascinating reading (and we've added our thoughts on the matter, too!)..

James

tvhits! says:
James has the most feminine features of the three. But before James fans start sending us angry letters, we're not saying he looks like a girl! He's just a cutie whose hair makes him look slightly girly.

Elisabeth says:
With his softer features, like his pink lips and pointed chin, James looks like the type of boy who is prepared to make a commitment, be a good father and not stray. His looks hint that he has a soft side and is charming and romantic. James's feminine face indicates that he would be seen as someone who is always there to listen - even at the most difficult times. Yet, despite these factors, James could never be viewed as soppy. He possesses a manly broad nose and a heavy brow, so while he may have a sensitive side, he's still all male!

Charlie

tvhits! says:
One thing we all love about Charlie is his strong jaw. Then there are his famous bushy 'brows, his big brown eyes and those gorgeous lips. Sadly, only his girlfriend Camilla has been able to get to know them more intimately. Humph!

Elisabeth says:
Although Charlie has a very manly looking jaw, he does possess softer features. For example, his lips are very full, whereas masculine lips are much thinner. This mixture of feminine and masculine features hints that while Charlie may enjoy his lads' night out, he also has a romantic side. On the downside, Charlie's manly looks could make him appear less honest and sympathetic than bandmate James. But the mixture of masculine and softer features may make Charlie more attractive to a broader range of girls.

Matt

tvhits! says:
This cheeky fella never fails to catch our eye. Could it be the rubber face-pulling, or that impish grin that makes us wonder just what he's been up to?

Elisabeth says:
Matt, like James, has a more feminine face than Charlie, but the rest of his features are more masculine. And far from seeing them as manly, many girls find features of this type far less attractive, as they may indicate a standoffish nature and less than honest behaviour! Matt's masculine features - his thin lips, broad nose and forehead - could hint that he is a bit of risk-taker, more likely to get into trouble and probably more prone to flirt with lots of girls. But his boyish charms and unruly manner also suggest excitement. A relationship with Matt might be a bit of a roller-coaster ride, but some girls simply can't resist.

James
As much as James enjoys the limelight and the recognition he gets from being in Busted, his feet are firmly planted on the ground. By choosing to wear a hat, James shows that he likes to keep himself to himself when he's not working. His choice of casual black jeans and jacket indicates he's still the same cool Essex lad who likes nothing better than hanging out with his old crew!

Charlie
As if Charlie's poshness weren't obvious enough from his clipped vowels, his well-to-do upbringing shows in his outfits too! By sporting a black leather tie, he's keen to attract respect from girls. His wicked, white rockabilly shoes display that, although he wants to be taken seriously as an artist, he's still out there having fun. Charlie really is too cool for skool!

Matt
Matt's usual uniform of slogan T-shirt and trucker cap tells you he is a joker, but this outfit shows something more. Normally, a cap is used as a shield from the public eye, but Matt has tipped his to the side, showing he loves the attention. His long, fitted jacket and cool trews also imply that, beneath it all, he's deep, sensitive and can be serious when he wants to be!
